Spalding Women’s Basketball Gets Conference Win The Spalding Women’s Basketball team got a big win on Wednesday night by defeating Westminster College, an in conference foe. The Golden Eagles were able to come away with a 13 point victory with the final score being Spalding 49 and Westminster 36. The team got off to a quick start going on a 12-0 run in the first eight minutes of the game. Spalding was playing good defense, and not allowing Westminster any easy shots. Megan Bunch did a majority of the Golden Eagles scoring in the first half, hitting all three of her field goals, including two three pointers. Westminster was able to tighten the game closer to the end of the half, with the half ending 24-17 with the Golden Eagles in front. Spalding did not back down in the second half. Halfway through the half Spalding was up 13 points, and it stayed that way throughout the rest of the game. Spalding did most of their damage from the free throw line, making 19 of 21 free throws. Jackie Skaggs was the leading scorer for the team with twelve points to go along with five rebounds. Skaggs went seven for eight from the free throw line to earn a majority of her points. It was a good game and Spalding was glad to come away with a victory. The Spalding Women’s Basketball team’s next game is this Saturday, January 9, at Eureka College. The Golden Eagles’ next home game is Wednesday, January 13, when they will host Greenville College.
