Women’s Basketball Get Big Road Win
Last night the Women’s Basketball team continued their road tour as they traveled to Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, OH. After returning from Dallas with a split, the Golden Eagles were hungry to get back on the winning track and they did just that. The game was close the entire time with the biggest lead either team shared in the first half was a 7 point lead held by the Lions early in the first half. After a 15-2 run by the Golden Eagles to end the game, Spalding took home the victory 71-65. “This was a great win for us going into the break,” coach Just commented. “It was definitely a good win on the road for us.”
Controlling the paint for the Golden Eagles was Kelly Harrod who put in 17 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Her partner in the paint, Amber Conniff, pitched in with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams played a very even game with each grabbing 42 rebounds as a team and both teams had almost an identical shooting percentage. The difference in the game was that Spalding was able to force Mt. St. Joseph into 28 turnovers. “Our defense stepped up late and we were able to handle the ball.”
The Golden Eagles next game will be their first ever game in the SLIAC conference when they take on the Panthers of Principia College. The game will be played on December 1st at 6:00pm at Derek Smith Gymnasium, home of the Golden Eagles.
