Golden Eagles Sore on Senior Night
It was the last home game for the seniors for Spalding University and they went out with a bang. Allison Woosley, Heather Maier, and Morgan Kennedy have made their mark here at Spalding University over the years and have helped establish this team to be one of the top in the country. “It’s been absolutely wonderful coaching these girls,” Head Coach Bridget Yates commented. “They have all been great players on the court and great leaders within the team. They will be missed by not just me, but by the entire program.
Spalding went into senior night with some energy off of being selected to compete in the USCAA National Tournament. With momentum on their side the Golden Eagles defeated Franklin College in three straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-17. The three seniors featured tonight were conference assist leader Allison Woosley, one of the top defenders in the conference, Heather Maier, and the reliable presence at the net, Morgan Kennedy.
Woosley did not disappoint in her last home match as she tallied 33 assists. Heather Maier once again led all players with 24 digs and Morgan Kennedy made her presence known with 8 kills on 21 attacks.
Up next for the volleyball team is another road trip to St. Louis as they take on undefeated Webster University in what will decide the regular season conference championship. Last time these two squared off Webster came out on top but won 3 close matches. “We are going to go into that game like we approach every other one. We made some mistakes last time so if we can limit those we will be in good shape,” says Yates. |
