Volleyball Gets Revenge
The Spalding University Volleyball exacted revenge last night against Indiana University Southeast, the same team that gave the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season back in September. Since playing them last Spalding has been terrific putting up a 13-3 record including a 9-1 record in the SLIAC conference which puts them one game behind Webster University. This game proved to be a big one in the coach’s eyes. “It was definitely a good win for us. We lost to them earlier in the season so it’s nice to get that win back and keep momentum going into the weekend” commented Head Coach Bridget Yates.
The Golden Eagles got out of the gate running with a decisive 25-21 win in set one. “We wanted to get that first right away and put the pressure back on them”, stated Yates. Game two, while being much closer, once again went to Spalding by a score of 27-25. It was great defense by Heather Maier and Morgan Kennedy that proved to be the difference maker.
After losing set 3 in a 24-26 thriller, Spalding once again prepared for another battle. “We knew we had them on the ropes and did not want it to go to set 5. It was important that we got an early lead.” And an early lead they got. With great play by Alex Marquardt at the net and with Allison Woosley’s serves, the Golden Eagles took set 4 by a score of 25-23.
Paige Dellis led Spalding with 12 kills on the night while Alex Marquardt was busy around then net tallying a team high 32 attacks and 6 blocks. Once again Allison Woosley led all players with 47 assists and 5 aces.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Saturday when they take on the Highlanders from MacMurray College and the Panthers of Principia. Game times are at 10:00am and 2:00pm |
