Last year the Spalding University Volleyball Team captured the USCAA National Title.

In 2007 the Volleyball Team came up a game short of winning the National Championship by losing in the Final Game.

The 2009 team marks only the second time a Spalding Athletic team has won a National Championship

Volleyball Team Stuns Hanover College

It took 5 games and a late timeout by Coach Yates to seal the game for the Golden Eagles. With the sets tied 2-2 and Spalding down 10-8 in the decisive game 5, Coach Yates called a timeout to try and gain the momentum back. The plan worked. The Golden Eagles rallied off 6 straight points and finally won the game on a kill from Paige Dellis.

Set one went to Spalding 25-22 while Hanover controlled then next two by scores of 25-20 and 29-27. After a convincing win in game 4 by a score 25-20, the Golden Eagles took control late and was able to pull of the victory. It was not easy though.  The fifth set started out going back and forth as neither team was able to take complete control. An  Alex Marquardt block put the Eagles ahead at 6-5. However , they saw their lead quickly evaporate as Hanover scored the next two points. With the Spalding being down 10-8 a timeout was called and that would be the last time Hanover would hold a lead.

Paige Dellis lifted the team with 3 kills over the next 6 points and with a big block by Allsion Dietzman, Spalding took the match. With the win Spalding pushes their record to 11-3. Paige Dellis led all players with 17 kills while Allison Woosely pitched in with a season high 45 assists.

Spalding will be beginning a 9 day road trip as they travel to St. Louis to continue their SLIAC conference play. They currently sit at the top of the standings in the conference with a perfect 2-0 record.  The game that is circled on the calendar is October 6th when the Golden Eagles take on the Gorloks of Webster University who is also undefeated.
