Franklin, IN – The Spalding Volleyball team captured the USCAA National Championship last year which proved to be their most successful season in school history. Off the heels of that accomplishment, the team has once again established itself as one of the best in the country. They entered Tuesday’s match against Franklin College with a record of 8-2 with their only two losses coming at the hands of IUSE and Centre College.

Through game one it looked like Franklin was going to be a bit of a test for the Golden Eagles. Franklin was able to keep it close the whole game until Spalding pulled away in the end winning 25-22. The Golden Eagles recorded a match high 15 kills in game one which proved to be the difference. After the tough fought battle, the Grizzlies of Franklin College had little left in the tank losing the next two games by scores of 25-13 and 25-19.

Once again Paige Dellis led the way for the Golden Eagles with 26 kills and 2 aces. This marked the 8th game in which Dellis has led the team in kills. Dellis’ most trusted teammate, Allison Woosley totaled 24 assists in the match which brings her total to 324 for the season which ranks her first overall in the Conference.

Other Eagles pitching in on the day were Morgan Kennedy with 21 kills, Carrie Woods with 19 kills, and Allison Dietzman with 16 kills. Heather Maier did most of the dirty work on the floor recording 18 digs for the match. The team currently ranks 1st in the conference in kills, assists, and aces, while being second in blocks and digs.

The Volleyball team travels to Indianapolis on Friday to take on the Marian College Knights at 7:00pm. This will be quite a test for Spalding who comes into the match with a 9-2 record while Marian College hosts a 9-4 record.
