Did You Know?

Last year the Spalding University Volleyball Team captured the USCAA National Title.

In 2007 the Volleyball Team came up a game short of winning the National Championship by losing in the Final Game.

The 2009 team marks only the second time a Spalding Athletic team has won a National Championship

Paige Dellis Garners Award

The Women’s Volleyball team hosted the USCAA Early Bird Tournament this weekend and they have the awards to prove it. Not only did they only lose two sets all weekend, they went on to a perfect 5-0 record in the tournament and captured the Championship. However, this was not the last award the team would see this week.

Our very own Paige Dellis, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky. (Mercy Academy), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 1-6.

Dellis, a 5-9 outside hitter, led the Golden Eagles to a 5-0 record at their own Invitational. In 14 sets played she had 48 kills, a .314 hitting percentage, 36 digs, 20 service aces and five blocks. She recorded two double-doubles for the week with 11 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 victory versus Rochester College and 16 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win versus St. Catharine College. Dellis started the season with 10 kills and seven service aces in a 3-0 win versus Ohio State-Marion.

Dellis was a instrumental player for last year’s National Championship team and it looks like her role this year will be no different. The team takes on IU Southeast tonight in the home opener for the Golden Eagles. Game time is 7:00pm
