Soccer Team Kicks off with First Practice Today

Newly appointed Head Coach Kevin Cromwell arrived here 2 short months ago with high hopes about the soccer programs. He has worked diligently in both recruiting and fundraising for this upcoming season. All of his hard work in the office gets paid off today when he gets to hit the field for the first time with his new team. “I am very excited about the season starting,” Cromwell states, “I’ve been busy with administrative details since I arrived and I am definitely ready for some soccer.”

The Men’s team will open up practice today in preparation for their first scrimmage of the year which will be this Friday against Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis, MO. Coach Cromwell is not going to tip toe into the season with basic drills and warm ups. He has full intention to run a full scrimmage today to evaluate where the team is currently at.

The soccer team will compete in its new conference, the SLIAC, for the first time this year which has brought excitement throughout the entire program. Last year, Fontbonne University captured the title with a 6-0-2 record with Greenville College finishing right behind them. While the Spalding Athletic Department has high hopes for the future of each and every sport here at the University, Coach Cromwell is playing his cards close to his vest. “One of my expectations within the program is that we train with focus because everyone is learning a new style of play.”

The modest but excited head coach makes his debut on the field on September 1st when he takes on Centre College on the road at 7:00pm. For more information about the soccer program please visit our website at www.spaldingathletics.com/mens-soccer.html.
