Men’s and Women’s Teams Fall at Westminster

On Thursday, January 28, the Spalding University Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams fell short in their battles against Westminster College.  With the loss, the Men’s team moves to 8-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.  The Women’s team now sits at 10-9 and 6-4 in the conference.  Both teams are running in the middle of the pack in the SLIAC.

Both teams fought hard in their losses at Westminster.  Kevin Gray, the Men’s Head Coach said, “We battled hard during the game.  It is very tough to get wins on the road anywhere, but it is especially hard in conference play.  They just made a few more plays than us, and that was the difference in the game.”  Despite their best efforts, the Men’s team could not come up with a victory, falling to Westminster 64-57.  The Women’s team also gave a good effort but would come up short.  Charlie Just, Women’s Head Coach stated, “We played hard, we just could not get our shots to fall.  When Westminster needed to make a big shot they did, and we could not match them.”  Westminster was able to defeat Spalding, the final score being 65-56.

Both teams will finish up their four game road stretch on Saturday, January 30 at Greenville College.  Their next home game will be played on February 6 at home in the Derek Smith Gymnasium.
