McAfee Named SLIAC Player of the Week

Spalding University guard Dewhon McAfee of Louisville (Butler HS), has been named the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 11-17.  Since this is Spalding University’s first year in the SLIAC, McAfee is the first Spalding player to be honored with this award.

McAfee, a 6-0 guard, averaged 22 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games played last week. He also recorded nine assists, three steals, one block and shot 17-of-33 (.515) from the field and 9-of-10 (.900) from the free throw line. McAfee was able to record a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-67 win versus Greenville College. He was then able to add 19 points and eight rebounds in the Golden Eagles 73-57 victory versus Blackburn College.

McAfee has worked hard to earn this award, leading the Golden Eagles in points, steals, and assists this season.  Head Men’s Coach Kevin Gray knows just how important Mcafee is to this team and hopes that this is just the beginning of his success. “What can we say about him, he has been great for us all year. The good thing about Dewhon is that he is only a sophomore, he has a lot more basketball left to be played. We just hope we can take some of this momentum he has created for us and turn it into some wins."

The Golden Eagles will play in their last home game before they start a four game road stretch.  That game will be played on Thursday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Derek Smith Gymnasium.
