Strong Play Down the Stretch Seals a Win

The Spalding University Golden Eagles Men's Basketball Team was looking to get back on track with a win against in-conference rival, MacMurray College.  The team was glad to be home after a 4 game road stretch.

The first half was played very evenly.  Both teams were able to trade baskets with one another for a majority of the first half.  Jamal Bacon was teh leading scorer for the Golden Eagles.  He was able to shoot 4-5 from the field and finished the half with 8 points.  Spalding had a little trouble stopping MacMurray's Brady Slagle.  He was able to finish the first half with 13 points.  He also pulled down 4 rebounds.  The teams traded baskets for most of the half.  With only seconds left in the half Spalding was up 5, but MacMurray was able to knock down a last second 3-pointer to cut the Golden Eagle lead to 2 before halftime.  The score at the half was Spalding 35 MacMurray 33.

The second half was very similar to the first in that the teams were able to trade some baskets.  It was a very competitive half for all 20 minutes.  Jamal Bacon played another solid half, putting up 9 points and grabbing 3 rebounds.  Dewhom Mcafee was able to score 15 points in the second half and lead Spalding with 19 points in the game.  Mcafee was also able to dish out 3 assists for Spalding.  The Golden Eagles still had a little trouble defending Brady Slagle of MacMurray.  Slagle was able to score another 11 points in the second half and ended the game with a game high 24 points.  The teams battled back and forth, but Spalding was able to hold on to the lead by knocking down free throws.  Dewhon Mcafee went 11-12 from the free-throw line to help Spalding to a conference victory.  The Golden Eagles held on to the lead, the final score being Spalding 76 MacMurray 71.

The Golden Eagles will play their next game at home on Saturday, February 13.  They will be taking on Eureka College, another in-conference foe.  The game will be played at 3:00 p.m. in the Derek Smith Gymnasium.
