Spalding Gets Conference Win over Blackburn
The Spalding University Golden Eagles Men’s Basketball team was able to get a decisive victory against Blackburn College on Saturday. The Golden Eagles were able to build a big lead and keep it, with the final score being 73-57.
The first half was a real team effort for Spalding. Nine players were able to score for the team, with the leading scorer being Dewhon Mcafee who finished the first half with 10 points. The Golden Eagles were having a little trouble stopping Todd West of Blackburn. West finished the half with 11 points. Spalding was able to hold one of the leading scorers in the conference, Rod Sykes, scoreless in the first half. The score at halftime was Spalding 39 Blackburn 31.
Spalding was able to pull away from Blackburn during the second half. Dewhon Mcafee added to his total, as well as Cody Cutsinger and Jamal Bacon. These 3 players were able to combine for 44 of the teams 73 points. Mcafee finished with 19, Cutsinger with 14, and Bacon with 11. The Golden Eagles were able to slow down Todd West, holding him to only 5 points in the second half. Sykes was able to score 12 points in the second half, but it couldn’t help Blackburn. Spalding was able to bump the lead up and keep it there. The final score of the game was Spalding 73 Blackburn 57.
The Golden Eagles’ game that was scheduled for Monday, January 18 against Oakwood has been cancelled. The Men’s team will play their next game on Thursday, January 21 at home against Asbury.
