DID YOU KNOW?

This year the athletic department will be competing in a new conferecnce starting this fall.

It is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference or otherwise known as the SLIAC.

Th conference is made up of 9 schools that span 3 states, including Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky.


A Look Back at the Weekend

The weekend started off with Volleyball team (9-2) traveling to Indianapolis, IN to take on the Knights of Marian College (9-4).  While Spalding recorded 37 kills and 8 aces in the match, they came up short overall losing to Marian in 4 sets. Set one and two saw Spalding go down easily by scores of 25-15 and 25-17. However, the Golden Eagles came storming back with a win in set three by a score of 25-16. The momentum once again shifted to Marian College as they took set 4 and the match.

Paige Dellis led all Golden Eagles in attacks with 12 while Morgan Kennedy followed right behind with 9. Allison Woosley continued her stellar play by pitching in with 30 assists. Heather Maier once again proved she is a defensive specialist by tallying 18 digs over the 4 set match. The Golden Eagles’ record moved to 9-3 and will play at home tomorrow against Hanover College at 7:00pm.

The Men’s Cross Country team traveled to the Quad Cities to run in the Augustana Invitational. While the team did not place well coming in 20th out of 26th, there were great performances put forth by two freshmen. Alec Zeremba finished 47th overall out of 373 runners with a time of 26:50. Another freshmen that has earned his stripes, JJ Depasco, finished in 101st with a time of 28:14. “These two guys don’t run like freshmen. They have been great for us all year, and the experience they are gaining now will only allow them to excel in the future,” said Head coach Kevin Alessandro.

The Women’s Cross Country team stayed closer to home and competed at Georgetown College. The team finished in 3rd place with Kerry Campbell coming in 17th place while Sarah Hodge, Liz Schooler, and Mirena Cissell finished closed behind in 19th, 20th, and 21st respectively.

Both Soccer teams had busy a weekend playing both on Saturday and Sunday. The men beat MacMurray 5-1 and Hanover College 2-1 in overtime. The women tied MacMurray 1-1 and lost to Hanover 5-0.
