Spalding Falls to Hanover Late in the Game

The Golden Eagles let another very good pitching performance slip away due to no offensive support.  Spalding sent freshman Corey Bush (Louisville, KY) to the mound last night.  Bush threw seven innings giving up three runs on 10 hits.  Five of the hits Bush gave up were with two outs, but unfortunately in the 5th inning Hanover would make him pay.  Bush started the 5th inning off with a routine ground ball to the third basemen for the first out.  Then the nine hole hitter singled up the middle, he would eventually be thrown out at second base trying to steal.  With two outs, Hanover would put together five singles and two runs to give them the lead 2-0.  The Golden Eagles would answer with two of their own runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with sophomore Greg Glasscock (Louisville, KY) leading off with a single to left field.  After a missed hit and run by senior Zev Bernard (Los Angeles, CA), Glasscock would be thrown out trying to get back to first base.  Bernard would hit a double on the very next pitch.  Spalding would add back to back singles to load the bases.  Sophomore Chris Counsil (Louisville, KY) hit another single moving everyone up one bag and scoring a run.  The Hanover pitcher then balked and forced another Spalding run across the plate.  Unfortunately, the Golden Eagle offense would stall from that point on.  Hanover scored a run in the 8th and another run in the 9th to take a 4-2 lead and hold on for their 3rd win of the season.  Spalding would drop their 15th game and are now 2-15 on the season.

Spalding will now host Madonna University in a four game series with junior Justin Penland (Louisville, KY) taking the mound this evening.  First pitch is set for 5pm at Derby City Field.
